Group founder and principal songwriter Ben Macy, 28, first started playing piano at age 5 under the unwavering glare of his mother. Since then, he has come to enjoy his instrument and has performed in many rock, folk, and jazz ensembles throughout both high school and college on piano, accordion, and organ. After graduating from George Fox University in 2001 with a degree in Chemistry, he moved into Portland to continue pursuing his musical career. Ben played music in the Portland area for over 3 years while studying with jazz great Darrell Grant before he decided to move to Washington and "get a real job".

After 2 years away from Portland and its flourishing jazz scene, Ben returned with a new album and a renewed interest in playing all types of music. Since moving back to Portland, Ben has played with The Bureau of Standards Big Band, Tim DuRoche, Stephen Blackman, and Wayne Miller, among others. Ben currently plays with a diverse group of bands including the Swing Sisters, Leigh Marble, Deanna and the Downbeats, and Listen Like Thieves, all the while continuing to pursue various rock and jazz projects that he leads. He is currently working on his new trio record, due to be out in late 2007.
